Utica Captures MBC Title with 7-5 Win over Fredericktown; Improves Record to 18-5; Wheeler gets seventh Win

The Utica Redskin baseball teams wrapped up the Mid-Buckeye Conference Championship with a 7-5 win over Fredericktown Thursday in Utica.   Justin Wohlford went four-for-four with a two-run home run, double and two singles to lead Utica (18-5, 12-2).  

Fredericktown (3-17, 0-13) scored four unearned runs off Utica starter Dan Wheeler in the third inning.  Wheeler, (7-1) who picked up the win, was lifted after the Freddies Logan Dilts started the sixth inning with a triple.  Wohlford then picked Dilts off third base and French struck the next two batters to quiet the Fredericktown uprising.

French allowed an unearned run in the seventh and picked up the save.   Wheeler allowed no earned runs, four hits, struck out six and walked six in five innings of work.   French allowed two hits and struck out three in two innings of work.  Fredericktown starter Josh Ferenbaugh took the loss.

Utica banged out 12 hits in the game.   Wohlford had a home run, double, two singles and two RBI; Carter Rowley had a solo home run in the sixth inning.  Wheeler had an RBI double; Shane Conners had a double and a single; Nick Joseph had a double and two RBI; Josh Whisner had a run scoring double and Joe McGuire has two singles.

Cody Cline had two singles; Ferenbaugh had a three-run double and Dilts had a triple to lead Fredericktown. – Report by Lynn Fawcett
