Utica Splits Doubleheader with Newark Catholic 4-7 and 3-2

Nick Joseph's double in the top of the ninth scored Bobby Phillips who doubled to lead off the inning to give Utica (11-3, 6-0) the win against Newark Catholic (10-2) during the second game of a double header Saturday.  Utica tied the score at 2-2 in the fifth inning on a Joe McGuire double, a Dan Wheeler sacrifice fly and a run-scoring single by Phillips.   Newark Catholic scored their two runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Cody Sanborn and an infield out by Tyler Moore.  Newark Catholic threatened in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded and one out.  Utica brought in Dan Wheeler who enticed Trent Nutter to ground into an inning-ending double play. Wheeler picked up the save, his first of the year.  Trent Nutter took the loss in relief.  Michael Taylor pitched eight innings and got a no-decision.   Taylor gave up nine hits, struck out fourteen and walked three.

Nutter had two singles for the Green Wave.
