Utica Sweeps Tri-Valley in Doubleheader
6-4 and 13-7
Utica (7-2,
3-0) scored eight runs in the second inning of game two, highlighted by Justin
Wohlford's grand slam home run, to propel the Redskins to a sweep of
Tri-Valley Saturday in Dresden. Wohlford ended up with 5 RBI for the
game on two hits. Utica banged out 14 hits in the nightcap.
Shane Conners had a triple and two singles; Nick Joseph had three singles and 2
RBI; Joe McGuire had two singles and 3 RBI: Bobby Phillips had a double and a
single and Shane McGuire had a triple.
Freshman Shane
McGuire (2-0) picked up the mound win in relief. Tri-Valley's Logan Lewis
had a solo home run.
Dan Wheeler's
two-run double in the seventh inning scored the winnings runs for Utica in the
first game breaking up a 4-4 ball game. Wheeler (3-0) also picked up the
win in relief of Utica starter Shane Conners. Wheeler pitched two
scorless innings in the sixth and seventh. Conners pitched the first five
innings and allowed four runs (three earned).
In game one, Nick
Joesph also had a two-run double; Shane Conners had an RBI double and Bobby
Phillips had a double.
Kaine Tignor led Tri-Valley in game one with a solo home run
and a triple.
