Utica Beats Johnstown 8-1

Utica (2-1,1-0) cruised to an 8-1 win over host Johnstown (2-3, 0-1) in the Mid- Buckeye Conference opener for both teams.   Utica starter Rob French (1-1) pitched for five and a third innings and picked up the win allowing one run and two hits. He struck out seven. Joe McGuire pitched one and two thirds innings of scoreless relief for the Redskins.   Nick Joseph had a two run double and a single and Bobby Phillips had two singles and two RBIs to lead Utica.   Shane Conners also collected two singles for the winners. – Report by Lynn Fawcett
